Being promised for more than a year, finally Flickr launched its video service for its users. But, before you think that this Flickr video is one of the YouTube’s clone, the puppet version of Shel Israel is graciously described the new Flickr video services.
The Flickr Director of Product Management, Kakul Srivastava announced that the goal to this Flickr video is not to have people upload long videos or copyrighted materials. To reinforce it, users can only upload their videos which are limited to 90 seconds in length or 150MB in size. However, the limitations may change over time.
Same with the Flickr photos are placed alongside the photos in albums and the main stream. Users can also tag and geotag the videos just like they could do with their photos. Embedding options are available for any webmasters who wants to put certain videos on their site. The great thing which Flickr video offers is its playability from the thumbnail screen as well as the permanent page.
Unfortunately, Flickr video only allows pro-users to upload their videos, which costs $25 for one year subscription. An API key is also provided, just like YouTube, which allows programmers to create services that access videos hosted on Flickr.
Finally, Flickr video might be another good option for those who want to share videos, especially in my country where YouTube has been blocked.
